Student Rights

Humans have human rights
yet students don't have student rights!
Being in this slave trade called education for so long,
I MUST STAND UP TO SPEAK FOR STUDENTS LIKE ME!
(or at least blog it... where I hope lecturers don't read)

Students have absolutely no right to:
Article #1: Choose our own teachers, lecturers or professors.
(Optimus Prime is a PRIME example...)
Article #2: Choose what we want to study and whether do we want to study.
(Not everyone is made for studying everything)
Article #3: Choose what homework we want to do.
(Especially the pointless homework of making notes for History when there are reference books)
Article #4: Speak against the marks of an essay.
(Especially those marked based on overall impression)
Article #5: Ask teachers to sit in our major examinations as well.
(They so often like to retort with that statement: I'M NOT THE ONE WHO IS SITTING FOR YOUR EXAMS! Wait till they suffer in our exam conditions, writhing in tension and drenching in cold sweat)

[extracted from Calvin's Declaration of Student Rights]

Students are just a bunch of slaves.
Then again, aren't teachers a bunch of slaves too?

Teachers have absolutely no right to:
Article #1: Choose which student to teach.
(They have to take over some colleague's maternity leave or deal with mischevious students or students who are just SILENT and they are like talking to the wall, listening their own echoes)
Article #2: Choose when or even whether to teach.
(Some college just want that particular lecturer to teach the last session and cram the whole timetable with classes.)
Article #3: Choose what assessment or homework to give.
(Lest the school administrators ask what have you been doing in class, or the homework sufficient for the parents' whims, or will the lazy students ever care about knowledge)
Article #4: Choose not to mark essays.
(Essays that are atrocious, filled with Calvin-Yong-Ze-Hao-style handwriting, illogical statements and non-English sentence structure are real-life nightmares to teachers)
Article #5: Help students in their major exams.
(Teachers hearts break for every student that fails because they know they contribute to part of it. As Ms Say said "can't put all the shit on the students.")

[extracted from Any-Teacher's Declaration of Teacher Rights]

Students
and teachers
are all slaves in this trade called education.
Exploited and pushed around like animals.

Education has meant to help students learn
and to help teacher teach.
Promised with joy,
it turned out to be heartache and worries.
